I would define a global citizen scholar as a person who travels the world and makes friends wherever they go, welcomes people from every place into their community and befriends them, and continuously learns from the people they meet. This year was my fourth year at UC. Last year I went to Chongqing, China to be a TA with the JCI program. This year, the first graduating class came to UC for their final year. The other TAs and I welcomed them and showed them around just as they had done for us before.  Some of the girls came with me to a conference on Lake Erie. We made a lot of new friends that way and the program there is beginning to recognize the differing needs of international students, so we were able to give feedback. I am also a continuing member of UC World Friends. We went to Niagara Falls this year!! The experiences are great times for learning and making friends. On a practical level, we help each other out in life. I am learning Mandarin (Slowly and painfully, so don't ask me to speak it) and I have a surplus of Chinese friends who help me in that process. I have helped people by reading their essays for school or for applications and modifying the grammar so it sounds better. 

Next year, I will continue to be involved with the JCI students. These students are in the same graduating class as I am, so I am particularly excited! I am also continuing with UCWF, as I will as long as I am in Cincinnati. We have more students to welcome and more adventures to go on! We involve more students from new countries every year, so I am excited to see where my friends will come from. I want to welcome the traveling students to my hometown and form strong, lifelong friendships.
